Surface preparation is important. Painted walls must be sized and with paneling and drywall a a primer must be applied in order to provide good adhesion. (New drywall joins should first be taped and leveled.)

Prepasted Super FResco Paint 'N' Hang borders are also easy to apply. First cut into manageable lengths, then paint or stain with a color of your choice (using latex or oil base paint or stain or spray paint) and allow to dry for 24 hours. Immerse the painted wallpaper border in water for 30 seconds and "book" for 5 minutes and then apply to the wall with a smoothing tool

You can bring ou the beautiful texture using a hard rubber roller to hightlight the raised surfaces. Additional effects can be created using metallic spray paint, rag rolling or the use of high gloss and special effect paints.
